Monaghan Motor Club Update 22/09/2020

It has been a quiet year since our last club event in January – apart from our Virtual Navigation in
April during ‘Covid lockdown’, when at that time – a lot of us were either off work or working from
home. It has been an extraordinary time since and indeed it has not been gentle on a lot of people
and families in our community and for the members and friends of this club. We hope we will soon be heading in the right direction at some point towards the end of the year. This might be slow and indeed not without some setbacks as we are experiencing nationally. Covid certainly has not goneaway, so we must work hard together, control and eradicate its occurrence and help prevent spikes arising in this county – not to mention the country as a whole, by adhering to the HSE guidelines and practicing the simple basic rules of cleanliness and social distancing.
With regard to our club events for the remainder of 2020, regrettably it’s a non-starter. This year we
had to cancel our March Navigation event, the annual Monaghan Stages Rally, the Autotest and the Endurance Trial. These cancellations have had a major impact on our prestigious club
championships. In the same way, we have had to cancel both our Club Navigation Trial
Championship and our Traders Championship for 2020. In these difficult and testing times, all of that
is a small sacrifice to pay compared to the life changing situations so many in our community have had to endure and now live with.
Certainly, we are all looking forward to better times ahead when Covid does not dictate the rules for our movements, our actions and indeed our motorsport events. We look forward to getting back to some form of normality, greeting each other in person and enjoying the competitiveness, the volunteerism, and our common friendship which is such an essential part of our clubs wellbeing.
We acknowledge our front line workers, health support personnel and community volunteers, and
offer them our greatest respect. To our many members and friends we thank you for your continued support and look forward to working with you again on our events in the near future.
The onset of October each year was always relished by our Navigation Trial competitors when the first event after the summer months took place. We looked forward to dusting down the cars,
unfolding the maps and brushing up on our navigation skills. Unfortunately not this year.
As a modest replacement, we are planning to organise a Virtual Desktop Navigation Trial on the
original scheduled event date of Saturday 3rd October. Similar to our April Virtual Navigation event (when we had over 60 entries!), we will plot a testing and fun route for competitors of all classes to keep their interests alive and indeed raise your adrenaline and get that chance to compete against your friends and fellow enthusiasts!
So stay safe, stay tuned, and watch out for the regs towards the end of this week!
