Josh Moffett with navigator Keith Moriarty made a sudden change last weekend at the Tipperary Stonethrowers Stages Rally.
Josh switched back from his new Rally2 Citroën C3 to his older Hyundai i20 R5 on the morning of the event. Josh has struggled to get to grips with the new car as he hasn’t been able to reach the same hights as he had with the older Hyundai. The change was evident from the off as Josh set a joined fastest time on the opener with Daniel Cronin/Donnchadh Burke. He then went fastest on Special Stage 2 (SS2), some 3.7s faster than Cronin, which gave Josh the lead, a lead he’d never lose.
Sam Moffett was also in the event driving a Rally2 version of the Hyundai i20. He with navigator James O’Reilly finished the eight stage event in 2nd overall (OA), just 3.4s in arrears of his brother.
Michael Carbin/Dean O’Sullivan were out in their new MKII Ford Escort. They had a fantastic rally and finished 10th OA and more importantly, top 2WD finishers with victory in class 14. Michael, being more used to 4WD machinery had competed on a few earlier events to get himself used to a top modified rear wheel drive car. Many folk after each event had said to him, that a victory was just a stones throw away, and so it proved.
Darragh Kelly navigating for Paul Barrett finished 6th OA and 3rd in class 5. Michael Conlon/James McEneaney finished their day in 29th OA and 1st in class 12. Anthony Hand/David McCrudden finished 39th OA and 2nd in class 11R. Tommy Moffett/Domhnall Lennon finished 52nd OA and 3rd in class 2. Cathal Sheridan took his Vauxhall Nova home in 79th OA and 1st in class 10. Daniel McConnon navigating for Francis Rafferty finished 98th OA.
Ryan Farrell navigating for Dylan Eves retired after SS1. Martin McPhillips/Peter Farrell retired after SS4. Killian McArdle navigating for Michael Cahill retired after SS6.
