Cork Motor Club hosted the latest round of the 2025/26 National Navigation Championship last weekend.
Clerk of the Course Nial Murphy assisted by Barry Attridge organised the 1000 Shakes Navigation Trial, a mammoth 120-mile event based in the Inchigeelage area.
Three Co. Monaghan Motor Club CLG members took part in this demanding event, the event that marked the start of the second half of the season.
Current national championship leaders Evin Hughes and Pakie Duffy were seeded car 4 on the road.
Their seed for the event matched their finishing position, as they took 4th overall and 3rd in the Expert class.
Ruaidhri Nash was navigating for Brian Oakes and was seeded car 7 on the night.
Just like Hughes/Duffy, their finishing position matched their seed on the night. Ruaidhri told me after the event that all was going quite well for him. That was until he did the one thing that Bishop Brennan kindly asked Fr Crilly, McGuire and Hackett not to make of their The Passion of Saint Tibulus protest.
The 1000 Shakes event was won by Aaron O’Regan and Derek Butler using a Subaru Impreza.
The national navigation championship will continue with Skibbereen and District Car Club’s 100 Isles Navigation Trial on February 7th/8th.
The Irish Tarmac Rally Championship begins this weekend with the Galway International Rally.
There is a large number of Co. Monaghan Motor Club CLG members taking part. Josh Moffett has made the switch to a brand-new Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 for this year’s championship. Josh and his navigator Andy Hayes are seeded Car 6 on this opening round.
