The annual Monaghan Motor Club ‘Night of Champions’ takes place this Saturday Night 26th November. 2016 was another successful year for Monaghan Motor Club members. Martin Tynan added his name to the list to Trader’s Trophy winners as overall club champion while the club navigation championship was won by Derek Mackarel & Fintan Clerkin.
Josh Moffett is once again amongst the finalists for the 2016 Billy Coleman Award for Young Rally Driver of the year. Josh & his brother Sam made a big impact on the Irish Tarmac Championship culminating in Josh taking his first Tarmac Championship win in the final round in Cork. Sam was 2nd overall and Josh 3rd overall in the series which was won by Cork’s Keith Cronin.
Other notable successes were Seamus Connolly/Gary McCrudden who won the Border Rally Championship, Pakie Duffy/Evin Hughes who won the National & Border Night Navigation titles and Shane Maguire/Mac Kierans who claimed the overall West Coast Rally Championship. Ciaran McPhillips was also the winning navigator in the South-East Rally Championship where his driver, Michael Conlon was the runner-up.
If you haven’t already secured your ticket, it’s not too late! Contact Ronnie Hawe or any committee member by Friday 25th November.
National Championship Prizegiving
Monaghan Motor Club members were well represented at last weekend’s Triton Showers National Stages Championship Prizegiving. Niall Maguire & Enda Sherry received their awards for 3rd overall in the 2016 Championship. The pair had another strong consistent championship campaign with multiple podium finishes through the year.
Peader Hurson/Damien Connolly were the class 7 champions. The pair had a mixed season which restricted their bid for overall honours. Shane Maguire/Mac Kierans were the Class 4 Champions. They narrowly missed out on the overall Group N title after a year-long battle with Aiden Wray/Kieran McGrath. Seamus Connolly/Gary McCrudden dominated Class 11R all year to easily add the class to their overall Border success.
