Moffett Takes Tarmac Championship
Josh Moffett secured the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title for the third time last weekend.
Josh and his long-term Co. Wexford navigator Andy Hayes took the title for the third time each following their second-place finish on the MRF Tyres Cork 20 International Rally 2026.
Josh finished the twenty special-stage two-day event 48.8s in arears of victors and other championship hopefuls Eddie Doherty/Tom Murphy.
However, even though Eddie and Tom were championship title contenders, Josh and Andy had a large enough points gap that even with Doherty/Murphy winning the final event Josh would have to finish in 4th place or lower or not finish the event to not be crowned champion.
Killian McArdle guided Casey Jay Coleman to a 9th place finish and 6th in class 5. Killian’s driver Casey Jay has been shortlisted by the European Rally Championship as one of five drivers for the most improved driver of the season award. Voting for this category is available on the ERC website.
Daniel McKenna and Andrew Grennan were the overall winners of the Cork 20 national rally. Daniel and Andrew took the win using their Ford Escort MkII by just over a minute from Padraig Egan/Tomas Ryan.
Andrew Mackarel and Richard Cassidy took Wilber the Ascona to 55th place and 8th in class 13.
The navigation trial season begins this weekend.
The first event is hosted by ourselves and will be based out of the Latton O’Rahillys GAA Centre on Saturday night October 3rd. Aaron McGorman assisted by Darren Lavery are the clerks of the course for this event.
This October navigation trial will be the final round of the 2025/26 Gary Nesbitt Club Navigation Championship and the overall club Traders Championship. The annual Co. Monaghan Motor Club CLG awards night is fast approaching.
